Questions and Answers:
Are there any "messages" that you are trying to give to your readers via your book?

God—howsoever you understand that word—wants to have an active, real relationship with you. That doesn’t mean that you should do what your grandparents did religiously or that you should do what the religious-door-to-door salesman does…it means you should find out what God means to you means and practice a personalized religious life that leads you there.

How did the idea originate? Remember that often the most incidental stories make interesting publicity. Is there a "story behind the book"?

I worked for congregational, organized religion for years. There, my job was to promote Judaism and this particular congregation—that's what they paid me for.

But, after some soul searching, I came to understand that religion had to do with God and how people connect to (the) God (of their understanding). So, I started to e-mail people my thoughts about what religion ought to really be about.

People told their friends to e-mail me and my mailing list of grew.

When I left mainstream religion, I continued my e-mails…over time, these e-mails became the basis of my online, Internet-based congregation: Religion-Outside-The-Box.

The questions that people asked me along with my interaction with people seeking (the) God (of their understanding), led me to start writing my thoughts in a book.

What points about you and/or the book should be emphasized to the media?

Rabbi Brian is a religious artist. Much like Picasso and Hendrix had to be classically trained before they could re-invent their media, Rabbi Brian did that and then left. His perspective helps people more clearly see something about their own perspective on religion and God.

Personalized Religion doesn't tell anyone what they should believe—instead it helps them unlearn what isn't working for them and offers exercises to help them find out for themselves what they do believe.
